Title: Remember Not, Lord, Our Offences
Artist: Henry Purcell
Performer: Collegium Vocale, conducted by Philippe Herreweghe
With Lent approaching, my church choir is starting to pull out some of my favorite pieces. Allegri’s “Miserere mei,” Herbert Howell’s “Psalm 121” from his “Requiem,” Thomas Tallis’ “Salvator Mundi…”
I was introduced to this motet just a few hours ago and I’m already transfixed. Purcell plays with modality in ways I didn’t know British composers were doing during his time. A gorgeous, lush, plaintive piece that aches with lamentation.
